Doughnut Plant Holiday Tasting - December 18, 2009

Oh yes, we're finally back... Not that we haven't been tasting anything - we've definitely taken advantage of  Astor's free tastings these past 2 weeks, but have been hermitty, lazy, last minute, [enter other lame excuse here] about filling out and bringing our trust worksheet.  Here are some highlights, or more aptly put - things we can actually remember right now:

1. One of the wines (which shall forever be lost to memory) smelled like detergent, specifically Tide (though I, Georgia, disagree on that front)

2. I was super impressed with the Renegade Run tasting - the Panama had that Chinese sour plum feeling/taste that I love so much, but the entire collection retailed for about $70+ per bottle making these rum an extravegant purchase/priveldge... but hey - made the tasting even more worthwhile, when else do you get to drink awesomely expensive free booze?

3. Ola had her first "real" encounter with cult favorite St-Germain, mixed in their classic cocktail with champagne, soda water and lemon.  As Ola puts it, it tastes like "A bubbily cloud, floating you up to the sparkily sun..." (Yes, that is verbatim, I can't even make that ish up.) Plus we both got some chuckles reading about the "le bohemian" man who picks these flowers in the mountains and rides his bicycle to the market, all for our boozing pleasure.  Thanks "le bohemian" Dude - this is important work.

4. Upon tasting one wine, I scrunched my nose, which caused the taster woman to ask what was wrong.  Turns out, it was corked and I knew it. Awesome.
